Globally renowned for his profound and psychological films, Ingmar Bergman was also a great theater director and a man of complex psychology who marked the history of cinema and continues to inspire generations of filmmakers.
Born in Uppsala in 1918, where he spent his early childhood, he moved to Stockholm at a young age to follow his father, who became a pastor at the Hedwig Eleonora Church in Östermalm, where most of our tour will take place, as this neighborhood played a crucial role in his personal and artistic development. In Östermalm, Bergman grew up in a rigid and conservative environment. The family home was steeped in Lutheran values but also marked by tensions related to his father's authoritarian personality. These experiences profoundly impacted young Ingmar, nurturing his fascination with themes of faith, doubt, and family relationships, which would become recurrent in his films.
It was also in Stockholm that Bergman began to explore his passions for theater and cinema. After completing his secondary education, he attended Stockholm University, where he developed an interest in literature and theater. This academic environment allowed him to discover authors and artists who would influence his cinematic style, including playwrights like August Strindberg and Henrik Ibsen.

This tour will take you to the iconic places that shaped his art, notably the famous Dramaten (Royal Dramatic Theatre of Stockholm), where he worked for many years between the 1950s and his death in 2017. The streets of Stockholm, the theaters, and the parks are silent witnesses to the inspirations that gave birth to timeless masterpieces.
