Millesgården

Located on Lidingö Island, near Stockholm (and easily accessible by public transport), Millesgården is the residence of one of Sweden's most famous sculptors from the first half of the 20th century, Carl Milles. This picturesque and enchanting site, the home and studio of the renowned sculptor and his wife, artist Olga Milles, has become a must-visit for art and nature enthusiasts.

The residence, built starting in 1907, became a museum in 1936. Millesgården is particularly known for its monumental sculptures, which often blend mythology with human figures and are scattered throughout the terraced gardens, offering spectacular views of the Stockholm archipelago. Carl Milles’ works are displayed outdoors, creating a unique fusion between art and the natural environment.

The museum also houses a gallery featuring temporary exhibitions by contemporary artists, as well as permanent collections of decorative arts, paintings, and sculptures. Visitors can explore the various buildings on the estate, including the Milles' home, a studio where the artist worked, and an art gallery showcasing a variety of sculptures and art objects.

Millesgården offers an immersive experience where art, architecture, and nature harmonize to create an exceptional setting. Whether it's to admire the imposing sculptures, stroll through the gardens, or discover the collections of modern art, a visit to Millesgården promises a moment of contemplation and inspiration in a setting that is both artistic and soothing. Our visit is the perfect opportunity to discover a renowned Swedish artist, delve into his creative universe, and admire his iconic works in an extraordinary environment. Our guides are knowledgeable and will help you better appreciate the beauty of the site.
