The Thiel Gallery (Thielska Galleriet) is a private art museum founded in 1926 in the residence of a famous Swedish banker, collector, and patron, Ernest Thiel.
The gallery is located at the end of the island of Djurgården in a picturesque setting, which also contributes to the quite unique atmosphere of the place.
It is renowned for its collection of Nordic art, especially works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, and drawings by Swedish and Scandinavian artists such as Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, and Edvard Munch, among others. The gallery is also known for its modernist and symbolist artworks, offering an interesting perspective on Scandinavian art.
In addition to its permanent exhibitions, the gallery offers temporary exhibitions and cultural events, further enriching the visitor experience. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful gardens surrounding the gallery, perfect for a stroll after exploring the artworks, or for a small Swedish snack (fika) at the museum's café and garden. Several sculptures, such as those by Auguste Rodin and Gustav Vigeland, are placed throughout the park. The collections, the house, and the park form a magnificent ensemble.
The Thiel Gallery is a must-visit for art lovers traveling to Stockholm, offering a valuable insight into Nordic art in an elegant and historical setting.
Our visit, lasting approximately 1 hour, focuses on Scandinavian paintings, but you can explore the gallery at your own pace and according to your preferences after the guided tour.
